Stanzo - From Chunk to Hunk This journey started on December 2001. I had just been to the doctors due to feeling tired, lethargic, with weight problems.

I was diagnosed as having a “non-functioning thyroid gland” – this is what controls your metabolism and helps your body generate energy to keep fat off. At first I thought, “GREAT – that explains why I have always been a fat guy: it’s not my fault after all!” Over the next year, armed with my new excuse, I piled on the pounds and ate like a pig.Then came Christmas in 2002.

I had some photos taken and when I saw them, I was horrified. It was at this point that I had to decide: do I give into this thyroid thing? Or do I make a change and get my self in order? I am glad to say I chose the latter.

I weighed myself and was 198 pounds. I began a diet. It was all “guess-work” at that point – no take-away food, less vodka and soda and no chocolate (I used to eat six or seven bars per day – giving up my chocolate was TOUGH!)

Although all these changes were wise and did help me lose quite a few pounds, there was no real structure to it. I then moved onto calorie counting and that also produced some reasonable results. In November 2003, I picked up the pace and joined a gym. The advice I received from the trainers was very poor and the first few months brought slow progress.

Then, by chance, I came across the John Stone Fitness website, and since that time my progress has been fantastic! I was lucky enough to meet people like Jeremy Likness, whose advice, help and motivation have pushed me on so very much. My weight is now down to 152 pounds (46 pounds gone), and my lean mass seems to be intact.

I am currently following a loosely-based Max-OT program, but only manage one to two days of cardio per week. I don’t really enjoy cardio, but I love lifting the weights.

I am still learning much. Jeremy’s advice about pre-workout meals, post-workout meals, six meals a day, low Glycemic Index foods, drinking lots of water, and much more has been invaluable to my progress and success.

Biggest thrill … Getting called “Skinny!”

Who would ever have thought I would get called “skinny!” Ha ha ha. Once this phase is done, I will “clean bulk” for a while and then will truly feel as though I have made a difference and changed my life.
